Wednesday's Woes
It was cold again Wednesday morning. Fortunately, I’ve had
the furnace on for the past few days, so I didn’t notice it until I got out of
the truck at work.
I went to Time Out for lunch and got a Rueben sandwich and
some chicken gumbo soup. The soup sounded odd, but was pretty good. Their
Rueben’s always are.
When I got home after work it was in the upper 70’s, so the
house was warm inside (the air conditioner wasn’t on, if you recall). I just opened
the windows as a pretty good wind had sprung up.
I checked and had to water the container gardens. So, after
I changed clothes, I did that. I thought I’d get a chance to work on dividing
the hostas, but just as I got the shovel out of the shed, it started to rain!
Back inside, it was almost 7:00 p.m., so I warmed up my
pasta and ate it for dinner.
I watched a little TV, but called it an early night.

Boring Tuesday
Not much change in the temperature on Tuesday. Work was work
and when I got home, it was lightly raining. I guess there will be no working
outside as I had planned. I want to divide some hostas, which is why I bought
the mulch.
But, they had come and cut the grass. So, I did go out and set
the Game Trail camera up again.
I ate the rest of my chop suey and rice for dinner, then watched
TV until bedtime.

Monday, Monday
I went out Monday morning and retrieved the Game Trail
camera. There were 14 videos on it (well, 15 if you count my hand reaching to
turn it off). All of them were in the daylight and were mostly birds flying by,
with one squirrel climbing around. I’ll reset it after the lawn gets cut.
While I was out there, I checked the rain gauge and found we
only got a half inch of rain yesterday. No hail, no wind, not even much thunder
or lightning. It was kind of a non-event here in Redford.
I went to Newburgh Grill for lunch and had a patty melt and
cup of beef vegetable soup. The soup was welcome as the cold front that caused
the storm has lowered the temperatures back to October ranges. Then I
went to Lowe's and got three bags of shredded cedar mulch.
Back home after work, I finally gave in and turned the
furnace on. I had just been too damn cold all day!
Caley had barfed on the freshly-washed bedspread so, grumbling,
I started a load of the bedspread and added in all the towels.
I got to thinking about what to do with the rest of my
tomato salad and decided it might be the basis for a pretty good marinara
sauce. So, I diced up half a yellow onion and sautéed that until it was soft. I
added in three cloves of fine diced garlic for another 30 seconds and then
dumped in the tomato salad. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes to give it a
little kick.
I let that simmer on the stove for about an hour. Then I
used the potato masher to crush the remaining large tomatoes. I boiled half a
box of thick spaghetti. When it was done, I combined I with my sauce and a
little of the pasta water to thin it. Then I plated my dish.
Damn! A flop! Taste was excellent, but the skins of the
tomatoes made the texture unpleasant. If you ignored that, it was a pretty good
dinner and I ate my fill.
It was sprinkling on and off, so working outside was not
gonna happen. So, I did a marathon of The Hunt (Jake, you’re right about that
married couple!), the latest Mountain Men and finally Longmire. I went to bed
around 11:30 p.m.
