And the rest of the family?

Jyl called yesterday with a 5 or 10 questions survey for her Sociology class. Didn't really understand the relation of the questions, or their relevence but answered as best as I could.

Jeremy called this morning, asking if I knew how to spell the word "feebic" as in "an example of a feebic myth." Well, that one I never heard of and, other than suggesting it was probably "ph" rather than "f" I couldn't help him.

Later I got the following email:

It is not "an example of a feebic myth". It is an example of "ephebic" myth. One word. Sheesh.

That only consumed several hours of my day.

  1. There is an explanation to my "ephebic" quest. I explained this on the telephone but it bears repeating for the benefit of the reader.

My pleasure reading is done using audio books, on account of my long drive to and from work. This is a pleasant way to spend my time. The only problem comes when I recall a word or turn of phrase. I know how say it, know what it means, but I will be damned if I know how to spell it. Nonetheless, alls well that ends well, even if the ending is long, protracted, and involves a couple of telephone calls and scores of web searches.

Regarding Jyl.s Sociology class, I also asked her about the relation of the questions. The explanation lies in group dynamics. That is to say, she is working in a group and none of the members could agree on a theme. The resulting survey was one question from each person.
