Carla, What Big Mussels You Have!

Jake and Carla stopped by Saturday night with three pounds of live mussels. She had a recipe she wanted to try for mussels, kale and smoked sausage.

Having never watched anyone prepare mussels, it was fascinating. She put them in a big bowl of water, salt and flour. This encourages them to drink and expel the mud they normally have in them. We snacked on some five year old cheddar cheese, some aged Roquefort and crackers they brought while dinner was being prepared.

Anyway, I didn't get the recipe, but we feasted like kings! There were some leftovers and, while I had entertained thoughts of making fresh pasta and a seafood medley, I have to confess, I just warmed them up and ate them for lunch...
