Sunday morning, and the baby back ribs have been in the fridge with a brown sugar rub all night. Started the charcoal fire just before 10:00 added the ribs and some damp hickory wood chips to make smoke. Set the timer for 45 minutes (you have to spray the ribs with apple juice every 45 minutes).
Was busy getting stuff ready when Jake and Carla came in! They were supposed to come over at 2:00, but Jake wanted to make me breakfast. So, he fried up pork sausage patties while Carla made big biscuits. Yum!
We played some cards while we were waiting (Jake won). Jake and Carla also went and played some horseshoes (I did not, as my arm still hurts) and Carla won.
I fixed shrimp-stuffed deviled eggs as my appetizer. I made the sides (sweet potatoes wrapped in tinfoil and baked on the grill and grilled asparagus). I also baked a Grits pie. Sounds weird I know, but I wanted to try it. Not bad, it had a custard-like flavor. Oh, and I served it with homemade whipped cream.
I thought the ribs were a bit overdone, but all in all, it was a very good day!
