Friday, the Thirteenth

No, this is not an entry about Friday the 13th, but rather a historical reference. Today is the Feast Day of Edward the Confessor, also known as Edward II, who built Westminster Abbey in the eleventh century.

  1. Neat! Excepting that this was pre-Gregorian calendar, so we're not really sure that it was today.

    As another historical trivia note, Westminster Abbey is the source of the "robbing Peter to pay Paul" saying. Westminister is St. Peter's, Eastminister is St. Pauls. When building latter, they diverted funds away from the former. Hence the saying.
