Another disappointing Halloween...

Raced home, made a pot of coffee and a turkey sandwich (Halloween begging is supposed to be between 6 and 8:00 PM around here) so I wouldn't get distracted by hunger pangs. Got a book and my second coffee and settled in on the couch, with my porch light on and my candy bowl ready...

Got my first customer around 6:30. A very small little boy (who could hardly walk) and his dad. His costume? He was wearing his dad's fedora. He looked cute, but was obviously scared to death. Reminded me of the Johnny Plesz photo from years ago.

Next three 12 year-olds came around 7:15. No costumes.

Got the last one just after 8:00 as I was about to turn the light off. I assume that she lives down the street as a car heading that way stopped and she popped out. Another 12 year-old, no costume. She said, "My Mom wants to know if you got a lot of kids tonight." I said, "No," shoveling about half of the candy in her pillow case.

So, that was it... Stuck with half a bag of M & M's (the bag I feared would be too small) and my dashed hopes at seeing some kids dressed in costumes.

I miss the old Halloween...
