Thursday, getting crocked!

Well, as you might imagine, I am about sick to death of eating leftovers! So, Thursday morning before work, I peeled four Idaho potatoes, some carrots, and two onions and put them in the bottom of my new crock pot.

I like this crock pot. It's not bigger than the old one (I don't think anyway - I should check) but its oval instead of round. One problem with the old round one was you always had to cut up the roast to try and fit it all in. This is more "roast" size. The other nice thing is the inside crock comes out for cleaning, while the old one you had to be careful not to immerse. I know, I know, you all probably have those kinds, but my old one is maybe 20 years old!

Anyway, added a cup of beef broth, then put in the roast I'd thawed. Oh, yeah, I seasoned it with salt, pepper and garlic powder first. Added a splash of Worchester (sp) sauce and some raw onion rings on top, (first time in a long time I don't have any leftover mushrooms, dang it!), then a handful of rosemary and thyme sprigs from the garden. Turned it on low and went to work.

I could smell it cooking when I got out of the car in the garage! Changed clothes, sorted the mail, etc. At 7:00 PM, set it all out to eat. I did waste the au jus trying to make gravy (this time it was too much flour - good flavor, but too thick!

Anyway, the crockpot experiment was a success! Only thing I'll do differently next time is set it on the wood cutting board. My formica counter top was noticeably warm.

Watched some boxing, read and went to bed.
