Well, Thursday we got the first of our frequent annual gifts from our friends in Canada: An Alberta Clipper! Detroit's high temp was 22 degrees F (-5 C) with a 20 mph wind and snow squalls that, at least where I work, created white-out conditions at times. This clipper was pretty wide-spread, reaching all through the Midwest and down to Florida, BTW. Hey, thanks for sharing, Albertans!
It was a long day at work, and I was unusually depressed. So, for dinner, I took one of Jake's suggestions (he says for price and versatility they can't be beat) and picked up a rotisserie chicken at Farmer Jack's ($4.95 US). Now, granted, it wasn't one of those huge, free range birds (it looked pretty puny, actually) but it had more than enough meat on it for probably two dinners. I put it in the oven, covered with tin foil on "Warm" when I got home, and then I made mashed potatoes and french-style green beans to go along with it. After I'm done with the second pass at it (chicken sandwiches? warm everything back up and do it all over again? Hmmm... We'll see...) I'll freeze the carcass and make chicken stock when I have enough bones accumulated.
I got a call from my friend Tracey, who is back down-State after having surgery on Tuesday. She's supposed to be off work about 6 weeks, but knowing her, she'll only last two or three. Get well soon!
I called and talked with my Mom for a while. Couldn't get up the enthusiasm to do anything (I told you I was bummed) so I watched TV until bedtime.
