So, before work, I put a honey-mustard marinade on a sirloin steak I'd thawed Thursday night and put it back in the fridge. Long-time readers may remember that I am trying to use up the meat remaining from our beef purchase in 2005. I'm down to just steaks and stewing beef.
(Brief moment of reflection: No wonder the rest of the world hates Americans! Here I am whining about having to "use up" steak and stewing beef. I would bet there are a lot of people in the Third-world who wish they had that problem!)
Anyway, it had snowed off and on all day and was snowing pretty hard when I got home. However, it had been a long day and I really didn't feel like cleaning up my cast iron grill pan or (worse yet) the broiler pan. So, I dragged the grill outside (fortunately the wind, which was blowing pretty hard, was from the West and the garage blocked it) and lit up some charcoal (see photos).
I didn't change clothes yet (I figured I looked stupid enough doing this, much less doing it in a T-shirt and workout shorts, lol!)
While the coals burned down, I sauteed some onions and mushrooms. When the coals were ready, I threw on the steak. It was quite thick (about 1 inch - a beautiful cut of meat, actually) so I cooked it four minutes per side to get it medium-rare (the ONLY way to eat a steak!)
I let the steak rest five minutes, then topped it with the onions and mushrooms. Fantastic!
Watched the Friday night fights until I fell asleep.
