Glamorous Sunday

Woke up twice, once at 2:30 AM for a bathroom break, hen again at 5:30 AM (my usual weekday time). Stubbornly (its the weekend, dammit!) I went back to bed and slept until 6:45. Gave up and got up.

Made scrambled eggs and a toasted English muffin for breakfast. Putzed around with my third cup of coffee, then got to work. Took out the rest of the chicken legs to thaw for dinner (no sense wasting all the oil from yesterday's Spring Rolls). Taped four episodes of "Our Generation" for Sadie and shaved and showered during that time. Called my Mom to see how she's faring (she's okay).

Made lunch by taking the leftovers from yesterday, slicing everything thin and adding them to 1/2 of a red onion I sauteed. I am getting good at making home made roast beef hash!

Now to the glamorous part of my weekend: Deep cleaned my main bathroom, killing mold, eliminating soap scum, etc. Good times, good times...

That completed, moved to the next exciting task: cleaning the aquarium (it was disgusting! The filter pushes the fish food away from the deep part and into the corners of the shallow (Newt) end. There, it builds up into a gooey white mess. YUCK!

So, pulled out all the plastic plants and the branch and put them in the kitchen sink to wash. Then used the over-sized net to get the goldfish (it was like landing a trout!) and put him in the big stock pot filled with water from Friday night (to let the chlorine evaporate). Grabbed Newt and put him in a glass bowl with a plate on top (so he can't escape).

Scrubbed everything with a mixture of salt and baking soda. Siphoned all the water out of the aquarium, added more rocks, replaced the charcoal filter, etc., etc., etc. Took almost two hours before the fish and Newt were back in their home.

Now I have a backache. Don't know if it was from bending over the tubs and scrubbing or carrying huge amounts of water, but its here. Put the thawed chicken legs into buttermilk.

Okay, so now its time to make dinner. So, today I'm gonna use my toaster oven for the first time to make something besides toast. I'm going to bake a butternut squash. Meanwhile, I'm frying chicken legs. Toaster oven seemed to work fine and my dinner was tasty!

Watched the usual Sunday night shows as the weekend drew to a close...
