Monday, Monday (again!)

Got home and tried to take some pictures (posted) but they are pretty dark. Problem with this ice storm is that its not going to warm up anytime soon. I would try and melt some of the ice on my trees with a hair dryer, but you know me, I have NO reason to own a hair dryer, LOL!

Now to clean up the mess from the Grease Bullet experiment. Result: No change whatsoever. In all fairness to the Grease Bullet, it does say "Grease," not "baked-on crud," but I am disappointed. Anyway, washed everything and reassembled my stove.

Tried a new recipe for dinner that I modified, somewhat. Tasted great, but later on, my stomach assured me it would have been better to leave out some or all of the spices. It was called spiced beef corn bread cobbler. Called for frying up beef onions and garlic, then adding a ton of spices (cinnamon, cayenne, ground allspice, pepper, ground ginger, sugar and salt). Then you added diced tomatoes in juice and simmer a bit.

Here's where I varied it. It said to put the mixture in a 9 inch pie plate. I just drained off the grease and left it in the cast iron pan. Then you top it with four big dollops of cornbread dough mixed with shredded cheddar cheese and bake it for 20 minutes in a 400 degree F oven.

As I say, the texture and taste was great, but my stomach was upset the rest of the night. I think next time I'll try it without all the spices.

Watched TV until bedtime.

You did not get any snow down there, then? Port Huron had about an inch of snow and the schools closed.

At first, I thought it was a couple of inches. That turned out to be from the drifts, apparently.

  2. No, we did get snow (you can see it in some of the pictures). We had about 1/2 inch this morning.
