What a weird day...
It is getting a bit warmer (but just a bit). Work was work. As a Program Manager, your day-to-day existence is long stretches of boredom (waiting for something - information, a quote, a status report from the field, etc.) interrupted by the occasion frantic something or another (a change in plans, a change in scope or abject horror in one form or another).
After leaving work, I had two stops to make before I got home. One was Westborn Market for some arugula, the next was CVS to pick up some prescriptions (I ran out of two of my meds yesterday, so I took them a bit later in the day than usual).
Now, at last, home for the weekend! As befitting a wild and crazy bachelor on a Friday night, first thing I did was change clothes and start my laundry. Next was to put the arugula in a large bowl of water (it's like fresh spinach and usually has a little sand or dirt on it. Swirling it around in a bowl of water lets the sand/dirt settle to the bottom of the bowl and not end up in your dish.) And, the third thing was to get a drink and then call my friend Leon and wish him a happy birthday.
He had just gotten in from working outside with the cows on his ranch all day and his teeth were still chattering. I told him I sympathized with him; the dash between my car (with the heated seats) and that 50 feet to my office door was killer, too. He muttered something under his breath I did not catch...
Biggest news on his home front was that he'd bought a pig from the Amish neighbors and he helped them butcher it (good times, good times) so now he has both pork and beef in his freezer! I really need to go visit him, especially now that he has more menu choices!
After hanging up from Leon, I made dinner. I cut croissants in half lengthwise, topped each side with grated smoked Gouda cheese (tip: Gouda is a semi-soft cheese, so put it in the freezer for 15 minutes before you try and grate it), sprinkled grated Parmesan cheese on top of that, then added the arugula and folded slices of salami. I put each sandwich into my version of a panini grill - my old George Foreman grill. Excellent!
I hung up my shirts, and then ate; watching TV, and then hung up the next load of dress pants, went back to the TV and ultimately, went to sleep...
