Thursday Night

I got home Thursday, anxious to try two things. First, I wanted to finish the fake pipe and second, I wanted to try a new dish for dinner.

So, after changing clothes, I used masking tape to mark the "stem" and painted it black. Letting that dry, I got to work on the baked potatoes from Wednesday night. Since I want the skins for something else, I cut each one in half, lengthwise, then cut that half in half. Then I took a knife and cut all but about 1/8 inch of the potato out. The potato inside went in a bowl for tonight's dinner, the skins+ went back in the fridge for a weekend snack.

Just then Melissa called. She is not taking the death of her mother-in-law well, she said. That's understandable, though, as the last person she was close to that died was my Father, when she was 4 years old. So, in that regard, she has really been blest. Anyway, we talked for over an hour.

After saying our goodbyes, it was back to dinner. Grated the potatoes to make hash browns, then added a little flour, a splash of milk, some thin-sliced scallions. Folded everything in and fried them in hot oil to make potato pancakes. After they drained, I put a dollop of sour cream on top, more scallions and then rolled up strips of smoked salmon and put it in the middle (I posted a picture of that, too.) Very, very good.

Finished the last coat of stain on the pipe, cleaned up (it's now after 9:30 PM) and went in and watched TV, completely forgetting the video on my computer I had started watching hours ago. Oh well, the weekend's coming...
