Altenative St. Patrick's Day

This is from my son, Jeremy Wolfgang:

Now might be a good time to reflect, and maybe even join my cause (or post this on your blog).

Saint Valentine has a holiday. Saint Patrick has a holiday, too. Saint John has a hospital. But what, dear father, about Saint Wolfgang? Think about how great it would be. There would be a parade, fellows marching in lederhosen, tossing little sausages to fat waddling kids (or maybe fat waddling kids would really want sweets. The clowns in their lederhosen should toss lebkuchens). This country needs a Saint Wolfgang's Day!

That's it from my end. I am off to make sauerkraut and sausage for lunch. No, seriously. The good fight continues.

Wolfgang of Regensburg or Saint Wolfgang (c. 934 - October 31, 994) was bishop of Regensburg in Bavaria from Christmas 972 until his death. He is a saint of the Roman Catholic church (canonized in 1052). He is regarded as one of the three great German saints of the 10th century, the other two being Saint Ulrich and Saint Conrad.

  2. This idea continues to grow, it is a real family effort. Joe’s the one who suggested lebkuchens. Riese had some great ideas, too. We were discussing it at the library. A nice lady kindly suggested that St. Wolfie’s Day was more Hallmark friendly. It’s a community effort now!

Lest this be mistaken for hubris, this isn’t about the name. The crux is a German holiday. I’d be just as happy with Saint Ulrich's Day. That has a nice ring, no?
