Satisfying Saturday

Woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 6:30 AM. Today is grocery shopping day, so dealing with left over leftovers. I still had 4 strips of bacon (leftover from the turkey casserole) so made bacon, eggs over easy and grits for breakfast. Then I started the laundry, shaved and took a shower. I have a haircut scheduled for 9:30 AM, then errands afterwards.

So, I went and got my hair cut, then went to the vacuum cleaner store, then to the library to get some books. Then on to Westborn for veggies and apples. Next to Home Depot for (gulp, dare I say it?) two more magnetic catches and some toilet shims. The catches are for the two cupboards over the fridge. I apparently used the ones for those two when I realized I'd forgotten the two pantry doors. So, when I thought I was done, I wasn't done! And the toilet in the main bath has developed a "rocking" sensation, so I need the shims.

Then I stopped at CVS for two prescriptions, the party store for some Guinness Draught beer (for St. Patrick's Day) and finally Farmer Jacks for grocery shopping. I got home and folded the laundry, put in another load, put away all the groceries and "stuff" I bought this morning and it was 12:20 PM. Used up 10 minutes turning all the clocks in the house (except for my watch) up an hour so I don't forget Daylight Savings time.

This was good, because I had to leave at 12:30 PM for Jake and Carla's house. Upon arrival, we switched cars and Carla drove us to the movie theater. We saw "300" which is a movie about the 300 Spartans led by King Leonidas who held back the Persian army of Xerxes I at the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC.

I thought the movie was animated from the trailers, but it wasn't Just a LOT of computer animation, background, etc. All in all, I really enjoyed it. Note to parents: Film had a LOT of graphic violence (which I liked - hey, it was a BATTLE fought with spears, swords and arrows, for God's sake!) and some nudity and erotic love-making scenes (which I also liked - hey, this is me we're talking about!) so be forewarned.

After that we drove to the China Caf, which is an upscale Chinese restaurant in Novi and had an excellent meal. I had Cantonese Almond Chicken (a house specialty), but I didn't get the names of the other dishes. Carla's was spicy beef and Jake's was spicy pork and vegetables. Excellent food and way too much. We each took more than half home with us.

Once I got back home (around 6:00 PM) I found two voicemails, one from my Mom and one from my daughter M_______. I called and talked to Mom first (she called first, after all). She had Blog questions, most I could answer, except when she asked where Melissa slept when she stayed in the airport those two days. I told her I assumed in the chairs (I've seen a lot of people trying to sleep in the chairs with those funky little pillows and the thin blankets the airlines pass out) but I didn't know for sure. I told her I would ask when I talked with Melissa.

She did tell me one bit of very sad family news: Amer, Uncle Carl's beloved cat, passed away at the age of 15 from kidney failure. I know Carl will miss Amer, but I must say, so will Scruffy. Scruffy liked the fact there was another cat in the family with his same, shall we say, attitude. He (along with Jake, Carla and I as well) enjoyed the occasional e-card Amer would send to him. Rest in peace, Amer!

After we hung up, I tried calling Melissa, but just got her voicemail. So, I finished the laundry, made up my bed, and then started reading one of the books I had got today. I made a salad with Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, sweet onions and a hard boiled egg with balsamic vinaigrette for a light dinner. At 9:00 PM I turned on a boxing special but fell asleep during it around 10:30. I woke up at 1:00 AM for a bathroom break, turned off the TV and lights and turned in.

  1. Sounds like you had a great day!

"Used up 10 minutes turning all the clocks in the house (except for my watch) up an hour so I don’t forget Daylight Savings time."

Aw, I am jealous. I awoke at 2 AM and reset the home clocks. I then vpn’d into my network and started checking servers. Found one server that was off, fixed it, and then went back to sleep a little after 4 o’clock.

I have been on the telephone this afternoon working on another issue with time. A scheduling program has run amok.

    The joys of IT!
