Tuesday, and the Gruyere gets used!

Well, I finally made my turkey casserole Tuesday night. It really didn't take long, either. I fried up three strips of bacon, cut into 1 inch chunks until they were crisp at the edges, then added a package of turkey meat. When that was cooked I pushed it off to the side of the pan and added a pound of mushrooms I cleaned and sliced and a chopped medium-sized onion.

I let that cook for about 5 minutes, then added salt and pepper, a cup of chicken stock and a cup of heavy cream. Brought that to a boil, and after letting it simmer a bit, I added a pound of cooked wide egg noodles. I buttered a casserole dish and put the mixture in it. I topped it with the Gruyere cheese that I grated and some bread crumbs. I put that in the oven under the broiler for two minutes until the cheese all melted and just started to brown.

It tasted fantastic! But somehow, I kept thinking it should have had peas in it. I think maybe when I was a kid and my Mom made a casserole, she must have put peas in it and this was some residual memory.

Another thing that bothered me was the price of ground turkey. Luanne used to buy it 20 years ago for health reasons and it was cheaper than hamburger. Now, this Jennie-o ground turkey costs more than ground sirloin!!! What's up with that?

Anyway, after cleaning up, I watched boxing and then "House." Then I went to bed.
