Legend

One evening, an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "The battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil: it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good: it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought for a minute, and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins this battle?" The old man replied, "The one you feed."

  1. Good one, one of my favorites. Here is another:

One winter many seasons ago, an Algonkian woman was gathering firewood. Among the branches she found a poisonous snake, so frozen as to resemble a branch.

The woman took pity on the creature. She took the snake back to her family's wigwam. The woman warmed the snake, fed it, and its health return.

Several days passed before the snake bit the woman. The poison set it and she began to die. "Why did you bite me? I have helped you!" she asked.

The snake replied, "Why are you surprised? You knew when you found me that I am a snake."
