Once again, my homestead is in danger...
You know, I had only one real personal dream. I wanted to live in a house, one house, for a long time until I died, like my Dad. I thought I had it when Luanne and I moved in with my Mom on 24 Mile Road. But, my sister Anne's suicide changed all that. Then there was Palms Road, my mini-farm. But, everybody told me it was too small to raise the kids. North River Road in St. Clair seemed the next perfect answer (it was no mini-farm but I loved to watch the freighters go by) but that had problems, too. Then, I rented this house, and, lo and behold, I got a chance to buy it. Problem solved?
Maybe not! I got a letter from the township about a variance that I really didn't understand (I did read it, but couldn't make heads or tails out of it. All legalize gobbledygook). Tonight when I was outside, putting out the turtle, the wind chime, the birdhouse, etc., I'd gotten down from the attic, my neighbor asked me if I was going to the meeting tonight. I said, no, I didn't understand what the hell they were saying. He confessed he didn't, either, but another neighbor clued him in. Seems like the empty lot next door (the one I keep cutting down the weeds in and picking up the trash) is zoned R2, meaning the owner could build one story duplexes on it. He is asking for a variance to build 10 two story apartments on it! So much for enjoying the serenity of the back yard! I really have to finish the trailer, but my neighbor assured me that at least 10 people on the street are going to the meeting to oppose this. I hope it works... But, now I am worried...
Before I forget, I got a lovely card with two school pictures from my granddaughter Riese today. Not sure where the envelope has been though, lol! I almost threw it out because it was all muddy and ripped (sad, too. It looked like a nice envelope). Luckily, the card and the pictures inside were intact. Thanks, Riese! You are a cutey!!
So, as you can tell, I got all the rest of the little knickknacks out of the attic. Everything survived the winter, except for the tiki torch. Not sure why, but it had fallen apart. Got everything situated, and then went to work on the trailer.
Worked from around 7:00 PM until just after 9:00 PM. The back of trailer is now together and joined to the front. Next comes the suspension, tires and wheels and then wiring the lights. BTW, my arm is killing me from using that ratchet. Each nut is a lock nut, so you can't spin them on and then tighten, you have to crank on them all the way.
Since it was now after 9:00, a real dinner seemed like a lot of work, so just scrounged the fridge for food (cheese, crackers, part of a tomato, etc.) Read until bedtime (which wasn't far off. I was beat!)
