I got up at 5:30 AM and stayed up because I need to get used to waking at that time again and I want to get as much as I can done today.
First, I put the up door molding on the door to the laundry room. Already I've run into problems as I had to scribe and recut the one side to allow for variations in the plaster wall. Not my finest work, but passable. I installed the bottom rail on the South wall and then started fitting the tongue and groove bead boards (this would have been much easier had I NOT stained and polyurethaned first, but I thought it would be a lot less messy and stinky this way).
BTW, the stud finder I bought is useless (I think it's the thickness of the plaster and lathe) so I'm using the old-fashioned way, measuring and then hoping I hit it. By 10:30 AM, I had that wall done.
BTW, about 1/4 of the boards are 1/4 inch too long. So, I have to do a lot of cutting and fitting in the garage and its hot and humid (high temp is supposed to get to 98 degrees F.) Its brutal! I took a break at 1:30 to eat some bean soup I had thawed and then warmed. Then I took a nap for a bout an hour - that heat is wearing me out!
The air nailers are worth their weight in gold. I could not have done this without them. It was a bit tricky fitting the wood around the heat duct, but other than that, it went pretty well. Last thing I did was to put up the door molding on the door into the living room.
7:00 PM and the kitchen is done. Not "done" done, there are things I have to touch up, got to put everything back and the hallway baseboard and trim molding still needs to go up, but if there's anything I've learned from my friend B___, its that molding can wait.
I had promised to post before and after pictures, so I carried back enough "stuff" (including the now-found coffee pot) to make the kitchen look sort of real, took the pictures and posted them. It was 9:00 PM, I warmed up a left over hamburger for dinner, watched a taped TV show, then went to bed at 10:00 PM, well satisfied.
The mini-blinds look great!
