Well, the plan was to paint the walls tonight, but, like most things on this project, that didn't work. First thing was to remove the (I can't remember what it's called. The decorative piece between the cabinets over the sink that sorta hides the light. So, we'll call it a do-dad). I thought I could just take the do-dad out, but it covered up an inset in the plaster. So, I ripped it on the table saw to the exact height and nailed it in and put the molding that covered it back on. Looks bad. You can see the edges of the quarter round molding on the cabinets. So, I took a better measurement and cut a piece (from my scrap pile) 2 inches x 40 5/8 inches and nailed that up. Covered it with the molding and it looks much better. I will probably put in something more decorative later, but this looks okay for now.
Next I had to scrape the walls. I noticed when I was cutting in the paint that, over the years, a ridge of paint had built up next to each door molding. Since the new molding is inch wider, this is not good. I know my brother-in-law Terry, the painter, used to use a "painter's knife" but I don't have one, so I used a wide wood chisel. It took forever, and made quite a mess, but I finally got all six doorways done.
Now it's after 8:00 PM, so gave up on thoughts of painting and went out to water (still no sign of the forecasted rain). This time I took B___'s advice and hooked up the back hose instead of carrying buckets back and forth. Of course, since I had the hose in hand, I watered everything instead of just the roses and tomato plants. I really like how this garden is turning out, BTW.
Got in at 9:13 PM and rustled up some dinner. It was a big can of Hormel chili, with the whites and greens of two scallions added and topped with a slice of sharp cheddar. It sounded like it would go well with a Labatt's beer, so that's what I had. Then, no TV, no reading, I went straight to sleep.
