Final Push - Day 3

I woke up at 5:30 AM, shaved and showered and went out to water while it's still cool here (supposed to be hot and humid today). I gave the back garden a good soaking.

Back inside, I decided to forego breakfast, just take my pills and get to work. So, it's the last wall and the door way into the foyer to do. Started the demo and again, I'm having to kneel way more than is comfortable. Then about 9:45 AM, tragedy strikes! I was out in the garage cutting the second long piece of molding when I heard a weird hissing noise. Then, the air compressor kicked on! Not good!!! I ran inside to find the halogen work light had melted the 25-foot plastic air hose (and, right about in the middle, dammit!) Now, I am totally p*ssed! And, mostly at myself, which is not good!

Fortunately, I had bought an extra 50 foot hose (and, this one is Goodyear rubber). So, I took off the fittings but could not find the Teflon tape (I KNOW I have like 6 rolls of this stuff). So, I got cleaned up and joined my friend B___ for lunch. Afterwards, I dragged him to a hardware store (for the Teflon tape) and then to Linens & Things (to replace the cutting board I screwed up).

Now, back at home, I got to work for real. By 4:00 PM, the living room was finished. Got out the Mop & Glo, and did the floor by the wall I just finished. Since I had to wait for it to dry, I decided to reward myself with a nap. So, I did. I woke up at 5:30 PM, and oiled all the wood furniture (the barrister bookcase and the ice box) before putting it back in place. Then I used the Mop & Glo on the main area of the living room (usually covered up by my area rug).

Jake called just as I had finished, and we talked a bit. Now it's almost 7:30 PM and I am starting the demo in the entry way. Small area, but it has three doorways. I was hoping to finish this tonight and also install the new kitchen faucet. But, once again, I guess I have unrealistic expectations.

Sh*T!!! Ran into an unexpected problem! First thing I noticed was the shoe molding was wood (which was nice as it doesn't break apart, but came off whole). Second thing was that they didn't take off the existing baseboard molding before laying the 12" x 12" tiles (same as downstairs), so, essentially, about to inch of the molding is trapped. I tried everything I could, but short of damaging the wall or the tile, no dice.

I called my friend B___, who is the acting consultant on this project. The only advice he had was to use a 2-inch wood chisel and "carefully" cut a line in the molding at or below the tile level. Good advice, I think, but I am too tired and too bummed now to proceed.

So, I quit! I stripped off my soggy clothes and took a shower at 8:30 PM. I just washed my bedding today and don't want to mess it up this soon. Dinner was a problem. I'm out of leftovers and don't feel like cooking, but am hungry. So, I cored a small cauliflower, broke it into florets, boiled it and then ate the whole damn thing with butter and salt. Got my book and went to bed with the intention of reading a while. I probably read for, oh, two to three minutes, tops! Woke up after midnight with my face in my book and the reading light on. Put the book on the nightstand, turned off the light and went to sleep for real.
