Tuesday

I went outside at 6:50 AM to put out the garbage, only to find the garbage men had come and gone! Dammit! The rules say I have until 7:00 AM! Now, I'm stuck with three bags of garbage for another week! I am so ticked!

Work was, well, work. At lunch, B___ and I stopped at a hardware store and picked up what I hope I need to replace the faucets: an 8 inch piece of 1/2-inch pipe (for leverage) and two new flexible waterlines.

When I got home, I was pleased to note that Tonya had cut my grass (well, I might have prompted her just a little bit. I called and left a message on her machine that I was thinking of having people over on the Fourth and wondered if she'd planned on cutting the grass today?) Anyway, she left me my June bill in the mailbox, so I filled out the check and drove it down to her. When I was there, I noticed several of her plants/bushes were dying or dead. We talked about it, but, like me and my brother Carl, we came to no good conclusion (the heat? the lack of regular rain? global warming?)

Went back home and changed clothes. I noticed a poor bird, standing in the now empty bird bath, so I filled my pitcher full of cold, clean water and filled it back up. While I was out there, I filled the feeder and made a quick pass around the back yard to pick up any trash the mower had cut up. Grabbed some catnip for Scruffy while I was at it and brought it in to him. He went a little nuts, but that's okay. I know how he feels...

Now onto the real work of the night: Polyurethaning everything! Dragged the sawhorses out, put on my rubber gloves, got set up and then I started. Other than two bathroom breaks, worked on it steady until 7:50 PM, all the while being tortured by the food smells from the Coney Island across the alley. So, when I finished, instead of working on the kitchen faucet replacement like I had planned, I warmed up some burgers and corn and ate dinner. Watched a little TV until about 10:00 PM when I fell asleep. Woke up just after midnight and watched the Tonight show. Then I came in here to find those song lyrics and to type this. Now back to bed for real!
