Monday's Chinese Fire Drill

Rained off and on all day here. They said on the news we got almost one inch of the stuff, but my rain gauge showed less than 1/2 inch. When I got home, I filled the bird and squirrel feeders in between the rain drops.

Now, the original plan was for Luanne to come here tonight and leave for Virginia tomorrow morning, but I never got confirmation of that (and she's not here). So, when I called my Mom to wish her "happy birthday" on her "real" birthday, I asked if she was still there. Mom said Lu had a brunch there for Jeremy, Jyl and our old neighbor Sue (who brought Mom the cherry cake Sue's famous for and my Mom loves, but everyone was gone now). Mom said she thought Lu was heading towards my house.

So, I waited, not knowing if I should be making dinner or what. Finally Lu called and said she was on the expressway. We talked about dinner and we decided I'd call in an order for Chinese takeout and she'd pick it up.

My normal close-to-the-house Chinese restaurant didn't answer (are they closed on Monday?) so I tried the little place next to CVS, calling Lu back and revised her pickup plan.

So, she finally arrived, bringing dinner (the best kind of houseguest!). We ate and Lu seemed to like her food (although she objected to the pieces of chicken in the egg drop soup. And who wouldn't? That's just weird!) But, my won ton soup was not so good, the chicken fried rice was okay (and Lu said her vegetable fried rice was good), but it was the egg rolls that were the biggest disappointment. They were like 3/4 size! On the plus side, they threw in an order of four something or another - sort of like a hush puppy with veggies in it. Weird, but tasted good. Anybody know what these are called?

So, clean up was easy, we watched a two-hour taped "Extreme Makeover- Home Edition" and then turned to our respective beds and books.
