Thursday

I got home and got my bucket, yet again. The wind from the morning rain storm brought down a lot of walnuts, but there are still more up there!

I'd thawed out a package of 10 chicken legs, so first thing I did (even before changing clothes) was to put them in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. The bowl went in the fridge and I went in to change.

I needed to kill an hour waiting on the chicken, but that turned out to be no problem as Luanne called. We talked about her goats, Mom's party and her upcoming trip. She and Sadie are leaving next weekend for Arizona, where they plan on celebrating Lu's turning 50 this year by riding down into the Grand Canyon on mules. I would have picked the Caribbean and a swim-up bar, but to each his (or her) own.

On to the chicken! Did the usual (hey, I like it, okay?) and scrambled three eggs with enough hot sauce to make it orange. That went in one bowl. The next bowl had flour and fresh ground pepper. I put peanut oil half way up in the cast iron Dutch oven, added a thermometer and got the oil to 350 degree F. So my mes en plas is all set.

I took the chicken out of the buttermilk and patted it dry, then seasoned it with the house seasoning. Then, three pieces at a time (well, four the last time) the chicken went into the egg mixture, into the flour and into the oil. 14 minutes later, they came out and went on a rack placed over paper towels, sitting in a cookie sheet.

I left the mess and took my treasures into the bedroom where I ate and watched TV until bedtime. Well, I didn't eat until bedtime, actually. I only ate until three pieces were gone.
