I am trying a new tactic about my glasses by wearing the new ones at work and changing into the old ones when I get home (to keep the new ones "newer," longer). Well, this morning, it backfired. I grabbed my old ones off the nightstand when the alarm went off and without thinking, wore them to work! I guess I have to practice this routine a bit more.
When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised that Redford Township had finally plowed my street. This is good, not only for driving down the street itself, but really important for getting out of San Jose onto Plymouth Road. Why? Because, with the snow as deep as it was, you could not drive up to Plymouth Road, stop, check for traffic and then continue. Because, you would get stuck! All you could do is a "rolling stop," pray to God no one was coming and punch it to get through to the plowed pavement.
So, the street plowing sounds great, right? Well, kinda. That means, of course there is now a large snow berm in front of my previously shoveled (by my neighbor, God bless him) driveway and mailbox. So, after plowing my way through and getting into the garage, the first thing I did was grab a snow shovel and clean out the entrance to the driveway and the approach to and from the approach to the mail box. The second thing I did was double over and suck in huge amounts of air. There is NOTHING in the world that makes you feel so out of shape as snow shoveling!
Once inside (and breathing normally, again) I changed clothes, started the Wednesday night laundry load and then dug out my Christmas presents to wrap. Everything but one lousy present has arrived at my doorstep, so I thought it was time.
I wrapped them in between several phone calls (I seem to be very popular tonight). I had to beat off the cats, who both at separate times decided it would be a great thing to lay on the table while I worked, but I got them all wrapped by 8:30. With the laundry either hung up and/or folded, it's now time for dinner.
So, I used Jake's method of broiling steaks. Instead of using the "broiler pan" like I do, he uses a cooling rack on top of a tinfoil-lined cookie sheet (similar to my using the cooling rack on top of a paper towel-lined cookie sheet for draining fried foods). He says its less cleanup (and, I always HATE cleaning that stupid broiler pan). I made two baked potatoes (they were small) in the microwave and topped them with sour cream. I sat down and had a great dinner.
Well, Jake was right! It was a heck of a lot easier to wash the rack than the broiler pan. I wandered off to watch TV and go to bed.
Neat trick for keeping the cats off the table. I never would have thought to beat them off.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I sure am jealous of whoever gets the lousy gift.
I meant hit them with the rolls of wrapping paper, you sicko!
