It was bitter cold here Thursday morning. The Weather channel said it was 9 degrees F. (-13 degrees C.) in the morning when I awoke. At lunch time, the wind had picked up and the car said it was still only 11 degrees F. Damn! That's cold! (Okay, okay, NOT Alberta, Canada cold, but damn cold for Michigan!)
While I was getting ready for work, both Lu and Sadie were up and hustling. Sadie's flying back home at 8:30 AM and Luanne is relocating to my Mother's house in New Baltimore. So, there was a lot of last minute hustle and bustle going on.
When I got home, I was met with an unusual sight: an empty house!!! I started a load of laundry; they had thoughtfully hung up their various towels and wash cloths to dry, but we don't play that here, they get washed and put away! I gave the cats their treats, and pondered dinner.
I decided that it had to be meat of some sort! Since nothing was thawed, I put a frozen package of smoked sausage in a bowl of cold water. I cut up the last of my Yukon Gold potatoes (I am running low on staples), put them in my 12-inch frying pan and browned them. Next I added one red onion, sliced. When the onions got translucent, I added the sliced sausage (all sounds pretty familiar, right?) But, this time I also have some crimini mushrooms that need to be used. So, I sliced them and added them to the pan as well. Figuring the mushrooms needed a little accompaniment; I added some dried thyme as well. Not bad, not bad at all!
Sadie called to let me know she had arrived safely (thanks!)
I had had a discussion at lunch with B___ about an incident when I was in the hospital when I was twenty years old, and asked him to see if his wife remembered the story as I did (she was a nurse there at the time). He called tonight and said, no, my recollection was not accurate. Damn! I could have sworn I was right! This bothered me enough that I ended up calling my first wife and asking her. Nope, she said I was wrong, too! In my defense, I was heavily sedated at the time, but getting old and losing your memory really sucks!!!
I went and watched a taped Iron Chef America and then went to bed at 10:00 PM.

ReplyDeleteThis from the person who used to always tell me to never let the truth get in the way of a good story? Honestly, Dad, I would not wory too much about getting old. Losing your memory just provides you with a good, honest excuse.
You people from Michigan are always whining about the cold. Try living in Vermont sometime!
ReplyDelete@ jwg: True, but that only applies to “story telling.” A good yarn can always overlook the little things like the actual truth. However, when you are “blogging,” you are putting things down in writing. It makes “plausible denial” a little more complex.
ReplyDelete@ Anon: I’m not that familiar with Vermont, but looking at a map, it would seem you share about the same latitude as we Michiganders. That being said, don’t forget the normal weather pattern is west to east, so whatever you get, we probably have gotten first!
Is Vermont weather worth being surrounded by sinzibukwud? Mmmmm… yummy…
ReplyDeleteOnly if it's authentic! Having been made by Fraggles, of course.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I can see why you get along so well with the Captain. :)
