Rainy Days and Friday's always make me glad!

We were supposed to get thunderstorms and rain all night, but when I checked the rain gauge at 6:45 AM, there was just a trace of water in it. Damn!

I may seem a bit obsessive about rain (at least my friend B___ says so) by here's my reasons. I hate losing grass to drought. "So, why not water?" you might ask. Well, I do (when I seed, as you would know) and just the front lawn when it gets bad in July and August. But, I can't afford to do my whole lawn, which is why every spring I have to reseed areas ('cause I have to let them die later on...) And, it's pain in the a** to drag hoses and a sprinkler around, which is why I am sooo jealous of Jake and Carla's programmable underground sprinkler system.

Why can't I afford to sprinkle the side and back yard? Because, like everybody else around here, I get my water from Detroit. And, the few people left in Detroit can't really afford to pay for basic services, much less that $8.4 million to keep their Mayor out of jail. So, the suburbs have to foot the bill.

Anyway, it did thunderstorm and there was lightning off and on all afternoon. It was really bad driving home, but it let off just after I got here. So, when I judged the raindrops were few and far between, I got on my rubber boots and went outside to deal with the puddles in the road. I used my hoe (and yes, I saw that Photo comment - trust me I knew THAT was coming, lol!) to trench a line from the middle of the puddles down to my ditches. It keeps the "splatter" effect under control and helps the road to dry out that much faster (see photos).

Before taking off my boots, I walked around and checked the rain gauge. At 6:00 PM, counting this morning's trace rain, I had just over 1/2 inch of rain. It's supposed to rain all night and maybe into tomorrow, but this alone should be enough to green up my yard and gardens!

I took the night off. I warmed up a can of Hormel chili and ate that, along with a few hunter sausages. I watched a movie until 10:00 PM and then switched to reading. But that didn't last long...
