After eating lunch today, B___ and I took a trip to Gordon's Food Service (or GFS), a store that caters to the restaurant business, or people who are throwing a LARGE party! It was his first time and he marveled at the sizes of stuff (it's the place to go if you need a huge can of green beans, olives or barbecue sauce). But, he was less enthusiastic about the prices (He didn't think you saved that much).
However, his mission was to find a half-size sheet pan (Jake and Carla's favorite) and he did. I must confess, I bought one too, later wishing I'd bought maybe four or six for those damn Christmas cookies!
I also picked up an item I'd been coveting (no, not a spider - still searching for that!) a fish spatula! I also grabbed two big wooden spoons (mine are more or less trashed). See photos.
After work, when I got home, I unwrapped my treasures. One thing I wasn't aware of: the fish spatula has virtually a knife edge on it. That would lead me to believe it can only be used in my cast iron skillets, not the Calphalon non-stick ones.
I changed clothes and checked voice and email. I had to return one call, but it wouldn't go through. Message said the "network was too busy." First time I ever got that one. So, I gave up and prepared to go outside to plant.
But, before I did, I tried Luanne and Sadie's phone number one more time. I'd tried on Sunday (which is Sadie's birthday) but never got through, just left a voice mail). Tonight, after several "busy" calls to the main line, I tried calling Luanne on the other line and, she answered! We chatted for a long while, and then hung up (hopefully, she will convey my birthday wishes - I still never got to talk to Sadie).
Once outside, I planted my six tomato plants, four eggplants, four green peppers, plus an extra four hot peppers (left over from Jake and Carla's). But, the extra peppers took up the row I was going to plant my leeks in! I'll have to figure it out another day as its getting dark (so dark, in fact, that the two pictures I took you could barely see (so I didn't bother posting them). I set the sprinkler on the middle of the garden (on the board) and turned it on for 30 minutes.
It was almost 8:30 when I turned the sprinkler off. Kroger's doesn't carry the hot dogs I like, so I had bought some "Dearborn" natural casing ones. I grilled them on the indoor grill pan and ate three of them on whole wheat buns with chopped onions and yellow mustard. They were pretty good!
I checked my email and found one from my brother Carl, who had surgery on his "good" knee today. He said he is home and walking with a walker, but he can put full weight on his leg, so it's not too bad. Get better soon!
I also had one from my brother Joe, discussing modifications he is planning on making to the cottage for wheelchair accessibility before Mom goes out for the summer.
I started watching TV but fell asleep during the first show. When I woke back up, I turned everything off and went to bed for real.
