I raced home tonight with every intention of getting some gas for the mower and then cutting the grass. BUT, when I pulled in, all, the smaller container gardens were wilted and looking bad. The urn and the tree box seemed okay, but the pansies in the mailbox barrel were all laying over, as though dead! Damn!
So, I went and got my gas can filled up ($9.78 dollars) and then came back home. I was fully prepared to write all the containers off as I had had a flyer from the Township in my door Wednesday, telling me the water would be shut off between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM today. But, the water was still on! When I took out the first water can, there was another notice, stuck in my front door, letting me know the new change from Thursday to Friday. So, the 5-gallon bucket for flushing the toilet and the 1 gallon jug of drinking/cooking water I filled and saved will not be wasted.
I watered the hell out of everything and then went back inside to change clothes. Next, I filled the mower's gas tank, checked the oil and headed out. It was almost 6:30 PM. Nothing exciting happened and I finished up just after 8:30 PM.
I cleaned up and made dinner. I cut up some redskin potatoes in 1/4 inch slices and fried them, along with a sliced yellow onion, in butter and oil. Once they were done, I used the same pan to warm up some slices of ham I thawed yesterday. I ate at the table and then went to bed. I didn't even bother with TV, just started reading a magazine that came in the mail today. When I began to nod off, I shut off the light and went to sleep.

ReplyDeleteI realize this idea would not work for you in your backyard (I know, I know, you've got knee issues), but using a reel mower in your front yard would save you the trouble and money involved in filling up your gas can so often. Just a suggestion.
You mean as opposed to a fake mower?
ReplyDeleteNot r-e-a-l, r-e-e-l. It's one of those old-fashioned-style mowers that do not require gas or even an electrical cord. Look up "reel mowers" on Google images, and you'll recognize what I'm talking about.
ReplyDeleteNot sure who's calling themselves "Captain Obvious" but you do realize, "..." that was a joke, right?
