Well, its Tuesday, the second day of September and I went back to work for the first time in five days. Today all the kids are supposed to be going back to school, too, but I never saw any, nor did I see any school buses on my way in. They must have changed the "start" time.
At noon I went and got those two tiles back from Bob at Lowe's. I also bought a new blade for the miter saw (I gotta stay out of this place for a while, at least until my bankroll recovers!) I took the tiles to the Tile Shop a few miles away and, for $8.48 US, they cut the two angles for me.
After work, after changing clothes and after cat treat dispensation, I got to work. First, I removed the rest of the tombstone spacers. I took the painter's knife and cleaned out the grout lines and scraped off any excess mortar from the tops of the tiles on the right side of the sink. Then I brushed off that section and wiped it with a damp sponge. Next, I installed the last two tiles.
After a congratulatory pat on the back, I went out into the hot and stuffy (high of 90 degrees F. today) garage, opened the door and put on the new saw blade. It's not quite as easy to do as, say, a Skil saw. There are guards, etc., that have to be removed. But, I eventually got it done.
Then I cut out the trim for the windows. I found I was one piece short! When I was calculating in the store, I didn't take into account the bottom piece runs almost the length of the window sill, not just the width of the window. So, the last piece was too short (by one inch) to use! Damn! I'll have to go back to Lowe's!
It was 7:20 PM, and I was discouraged. So, I stopped for the night (well, other than getting the garbage ready to put out). I warmed up two burgers (they were delicious with the onions, BTW) and ate them watching TV. I shut everything off, opened the windows and then went to bed at 10:00 PM.
Tile is looking Good!

ReplyDeleteYou know, I'd forgotten how fascinated my Dad was with tools and projects. I guess I really am a chip off the old block!
