Mowing in the rain...

Thursday was a repeat of Wednesday, but with more probability of rain. And, if you were paying attention, I still need to cut the back yard lawn.

So, when I got home, I did give the cats their treats (I fear what they might do to me when I am asleep if I don't) but, without changing clothes (I did change my work shoes to my Crocs). I zipped up my rain jacket, added my fedora and headed out to the back yard with the mower.

So, about half way through cutting, it started to sprinkle. With the wind and the cold air, I briefly thought of quitting. But, I decided to watch the discharge chute of the mower. If I saw the discharged grass clumping, I would quit.

I kicked the speed up a couple of notches and got 'er done! I was back in the house by 6:30 PM. I took off my damp jacket and hung it up to dry. Then I changed out of my damp clothes and thought about dinner. Leftovers are all gone and I didn't feel much like making something. Wait a minute! I have a small container of that beef, mushroom and barley soup in the fridge!

So, I warmed that up in the microwave, after adding some water. You always have to add water to barley soup, for some reason. I guess the barley sucks it up.

Man! I wish you could taste this! Other than my Mother's soup, this is the best beef barley soup I ever tasted! BTW, I didn't say that to suck up to my Mother. I think everybody has some dishes from their childhood that you remember as tasting fantastic, but you just can't seem to recreate.

Back to the soup. I know what put it over the top: using the beef short ribs. They made the most savory broth. I'll never make this soup again without them! And, I'd like to try using them to make beef vegetable soup one day.

But, all too soon the soup was gone. I went in and watched some recorded show, waiting for the Vice Presidential debate. I watched it and, like millions of others, waited for one or the other to really screw up. But, neither one really did. It was rather boring and I must admit I dozed off before it ended.

I woke up, turned off the TV and the light and went to bed for real.

Yea, it's hard to be disappointed when expectations are so low.

  2. The only real gaff I caught was when Palin referred to our "Talibany" allies. Maybe it was because I was so tired, but I just cracked up at the image of the Republican terrorists.

Also, this email was going around:

Joe Biden: Based on my years of experience and detailed knowledge of who voted for which bill and why, I can clearly demonstrate that I won the debate.

Sarah Palin: Say it ain't so, Joe! There you go again, looking at the past. The debate was yesterday. All debaters make mistakes. But the American people want a mavrick bringing change. Let's not talk about yesterday, let's just focus on today!

  3. Let's face it guys: Nobody ever picks a Vice President, thinking, well, if I die they can take over. Picture Dan Quayle, if you will..

No, they pick then to get states they couldn't get on their own or voter's who need something else besides what the candidate offers.

Biden was picked to negate the impression that Obama lacks foreign policy experience. Palin was chosen to counteract the "Washington Insider" label that McCain had (you betcha!)

As such, they both performed brilliantly!

The only scary thing is that in the history of American politics, one out of every three vice presidents have gone on to become president...

Could be worse... Dick (I'll pop a cap up your ass)Cheney?

At least we Republicans are true to our nature and want a VP who hunts!
