Snowy Sunday

Sunday dawned, cold and overcast. I was up at 6:00 AM and had a new pot of coffee brewing. I didn't feel like breakfast, so I went right to shaving and showering.

Once I was dressed, I started cleaning the kitchen up. I got the stove cleaned and the counter. Then I moved the chair, the rolling cart and the trash container moved into the living room. I swept the floor and then washed it good with Top Job and water. So, by 10:00 AM, I was locked into either the bedrooms or the living room. So, I got my book and went to the living room.

When the floor was dry, I was hungry. So, I warmed up some venison chili Jake had slipped into my leftover bag. He made like three gallons of it and, knowing Jake's love for heat, I was a bit concerned. But, it tasted great and not too hot, just spicy. Thanks!

So, now it's back to the bathroom shower. By 1:30 PM, I had all the remaining cement backer board up and all the joints taped. It's alternating between raining and snowing, BTW.

I'm trying to figure out where to put the tile saw as it makes quite the watery mess. Last time, if you recall, I had it set up outside. I ended up setting it almost next to the garage door and moved everything else back a ways.

So, I opened the pre-mixed mortar and started setting the bottom row of tiles. This is the tricky one, because the cement back board is out 1/4 inch from the original tile in the shower pan. So, I am using 2 x 6 inch radius cove tile that will turn under the backer board and touch the original tile. Since all the rest of the tiles will be on top of these, I want them perfect. So, I am using my small plastic level and making sure they are all nice and straight.

I got that done by 3:00 PM and decided it was a good time to stop. I want these tiles to harden in place before I add the weight of more tiles on top of them. So, I cleaned up the trowels, etc. Before I put the lid on my mortar, I laid two sheets of cling wrap directly on top of the mortar, hoping to slow the hardening process. Then I snapped on the real lid.

I threw my wet clothes into the washer and started that up. Then, I took my second shower of the day, trying to find and eradicate all the dried mortar on me.

I watched some taped TV shows and then started on dinner. I peeled and sliced an eggplant. I dipped the slices in eggs and then flour and fried them in some canola oil until golden brown. I ate that with the rest of the turkey pot pie for an early dinner.

I hung up and folded the laundry and put it away. Then I cleaned up the minor mess in the kitchen from dinner. Then I watched my Sunday night shows until bedtime at 10:00 PM.
