Monday morning was decidedly different! The heat and most of the power in my building went out sometime over the weekend. So, it was 57 degrees when I got there. I was still able to get on the network (many people couldn't) so I did manage to print off and mail the Blog to my Mom.
About 8:30 AM, my boss said that the people with laptops should relocate to other buildings. That left just Ying (a programmer) and me. Since we both live nearby, he sent us home, with the option of calling us back in if the heat came on anytime soon.
So, I stopped at Home Depot and got more mortar. Then, back at home, I debated whether or not I should change and get back to tiling right away. Instead, I froze the soup and then washed the two stock pots. Then I put the box of biscuit "bright" tile and the receipt in the trunk of the car to return tomorrow.
It was still not noon (I'm thinking after 1:00 PM it would be safe to assume he won't be calling me back in) so I started vacuuming the house.
Not wanting trust anything to Fate (been there, done that), I called my boss at 1:15 PM. He said he had no information that would lead him to believe the power would be restored anytime soon, so, take the rest of the day off. So, I changed into my tiling clothes and got to work.
By 4:00 PM, the west wall was completed and I got out of my soggy tiling clothes (I wonder how real, professional tile people handle that damn wet tile saw... Do they wear rubber aprons?) and got myself into the shower. I took out some hamburger to thaw for dinner (later) and decided to take a nap. So, that's what I did...
Before it got too dark, I went out and got the mail (I didn't want to slip and fall in the dark). Back inside, I decided I did enough work today, so I got my last library book and relocated to the couch in the living room.
When I got hungry, I took half an onion and sliced it thinly. I sauted the slices in oil and butter. When they were nice and caramelized, I pulled them out and put in a half-pound hamburger patty. I gave it a nice crust on both sides (setting off the smoke detectors) and then plated it, topped with the onions. I ate that watching some TV and went to bed about 11:00 PM.
Real tile guys probably have a grunt do the cutting.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I need! A grunt!!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I am my own grunt, it seems. Not sure if that could make you go blind, but I know it does mean you're gonna get wet!
