I woke up at 6:30 on Saturday. I put on a pot of coffee and drank a cup while posting the Blog. It looked calm and not too windy, so I threw my work clothes on my dirty body and went out to put some herbicide on the driveway.
But, when I went out, it already seemed to be a bit too windy for my liking. Now, I've had some mishaps with herbicide in the past, so I decided to wait for a calmer day. Discretion is the better part of valor, as they say!
Back inside, I moved the kitchen chairs and the rolling cart into the living room and then swept the upstairs bath and kitchen. Next, I mopped the floor. Since I trapped myself downstairs (well, not really - I unlocked the front door before starting the floor-washing), I shaved and showered while waiting for it to dry.
Afterward, I went out back and decided I still needed at least one more wheelbarrow of compost. So, I got that done. My back is grateful we are finished with the particular chore, BTW!
Then I laid out my rows and planted the vegetables. The only seeds I planted were between the early cabbages. I put leaf lettuce in the back row and radishes in the front. Now, I know it's a bit late for these spring veggies, but I am just taking a chance (all gardening is just a chance, in my world). I put out the square sprinkler and then went inside, grabbed the camera and took a couple of pictures for you. It was just a little after 4:00 PM.
I washed up and then went out to cut the front lawn with the push mower. I finished up just after 5:00 PM. I went back and turned off the sprinkler in the raised bed garden. I was coiling up the hose when my neighbor's wife came out and called to him that dinner was ready. I had a momentary heart-struck moment, thinking how sweet it would be for a young slip of a woman to call me into dinner. Instead, I bust my ass, then go inside and have to make my own dinner... Oh well, this is the life I live now, so no sense crying over spilt milk, as they say...
I went inside and got the tractor key. I have only about half a tank of gas and the gas can is empty, so I hope I can get the back done before I run out!
I did!
So, let's recap: I now have the vegetable garden planted. The last two projects left outside are to plant the violas in the front garden and move a mountain of mulch.
I put away the tractor and buttoned everything up for the night.
Back inside, I made dinner (sigh). Nothing fancy today, just a pound of ground chuck and a taco mix packet. I served it, along with shredded lettuce, sharp cheddar cheese and store-bought taco sauce on hard taco shells (to me, it ain't a taco unless it crunches when you bite it!)
I went in and watched the fifth Red Wings play-off game (we won!)
