Finally Friday

I surprised myself on Friday by not waking up until 8:00 AM. It was raining and apparently had rained overnight as well, judging from the puddles. It continued to rain off and on throughout the day.

I started a load of laundry and then determined what I was hoping to accomplish today. I was planning to go shopping for the few things I need but, with the rain, I decided to wait until tomorrow.

I washed up the few dishes, pots and pans and my chef knife that were soaking in the sink. I looked around and decided I really need to sweep and vacuum the house. I was actually embarrassed yesterday at the amount of cat hair on the carpet and so on when Jake and Carla came in.

We had talked in the car yesterday about how soon fall was coming and I mentioned how I hated turning on the furnace for the first time (I always get a burnt dust smell for days). Jake said he heard you were supposed to turn it on a couple of times in August or September, when it was still warm and you could open the windows to air the house out. Made sense so I'm doing that today

I hung up the laundry and then took my shower (I'll shave Saturday). I called and got a hair cut appointment for tomorrow. Then I started using the electric sweeper. I swept room by room, emptying out the collection tank after each one (the cat hair really fills it up quickly).

I stopped at noon and lay down for a bit. I did doze off for about a half hour but got back up at 1:00 PM. By 3:00 PM, I had everything swept and the bathroom floor washed. I lay back down for another rest until 4:00.

Then I washed out the fridge (when I thawed out the beef stew meat, some of the blood had dripped off the plate). I finished that up by 5:00 PM and then washed the kitchen floor. Then I quit for the day.

Now, I know I didn't dry mop the wood floors, dust each room and wash all the glass surfaces like I normally do, but that's the most work I've done in 2 1/2 weeks, so I felt pretty good at that point.

I had thawed out the last container of Carla's Penne with meatballs, so now I added in the last of the extra pasta sauce and heated it up on the stove.

I talked a bit with my friend B___ and then ate dinner. I returned a phone call from my brother Jim afterward. Then I watched the Friday Night Fights until bedtime.
