I awoke at 6:30 AM on Monday. We had quite the wicked storm last night, so I went out on the patio and picked up the chairs. I noticed there was another 1/2 inch of rain in the gauge.
I really wanted a cup of coffee, but I am under the "No food or drink after midnight" rule. So, I shaved and showered instead. I got dressed and waited for Jake and Carla.
They showed up and we (along with that damned sling) headed for Mt. Clemens and the hospital. I won't bore you with all the details, but two things stood out. One, when they had me in my hospital gown and saw my ankles, they wrapped them in yards of gauze.
The other is that they must have gotten backed up in surgery, because I didn't get in until hours later.
My brother Carl also showed up, so the four of us waited and waited until they finally wheeled me away.
The operating room was predictably cold. They had shot me up with a nerve blocker hours earlier, so they added something to my I.V. and I went to sleep.
I woke up about two or three hours later. Once I had recovered enough, I put my pants on (I wore my hospital gown home as a shirt). An hour or so drive later and I was finally back home. Carla suggested using the couch pillows on the bed (I have to sleep sitting up). She left to let their poor dog out, (thanks again for everything) while Jake used my car to get my pain prescription filled.
While he was out, I returned Lu's phone call. Both she and my daughter Melissa had called and both said I didn't need to call them back tonight. After speaking for just a few moments with Lu, my throat was so sore I decided to take Melissa up on her offer and call another time.
CVS didn't have the meds, so Jake went to Walgreen's instead. It was a good thing he did, because while waiting, he came across a "One Touch Can Opener" (as seen on TV, lol). So, one more difficulty overcome!
Jake opened the childproof top on the pain pills and I took two. He got my garbage ready to take out on Tuesday morning and then left for home and hearth (thanks, buddy). I sat in the recliner and waited for the pills to work (by that time I was in considerable pain).
I made Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup for dinner, which was a pain in the butt to eat (my left hand was shaking too much to get the spoon from the bowl to my mouth). I finally put it in a big cup, drank the broth and kinda "slurped" the noodles. Later, I went and watched TV and dozed.
P.S. I hope to God that, when this is all over, I will be able to re-learn how to type normally again!
