My Mother

My mother, Helen Francis Goerlich, passed away Sunday around 2:00 PM. She was, as she'd hoped for, at her beloved cottage on the front porch.

She was a remarkable woman who, despite her age, never lost her childlike sense of wonder.

I know I often attribute my perseverance and work ethic to my Dad. But my joy of cooking, gardening, reading, writing prose and poetry and the love of music I owe to my Mom.

Old age finally snuck up on her after she turned 100 and so, for her, it's a blessing. But for me, I've lost a wonderful confidante, companion, friend and, first and foremost, my Mother.

  1. You will be missed grandma! You welcomed me into the family with open arms and it was a pleasure to know you. I love you!

  2. We will always miss our Helen who was our summertime neighbor. We would always know that summer had arrived when Helen came out to the cottage. She will be sadly missed by all here; including the ducks and the swans who would come by her window to say "hello" and "goodnight" each day. She was truly "One in a Million" and showed me that the simple things in life are also the most precious---like watching the sunsets in the evenings with some ice cream and popcorn; those were the days. My deepest sympathies go out to the family. Love, The McCoys
