Chilly Sunday

I woke up at 4:00 AM on Sunday. I turned on the small lamp on my night stand and started reading my book. I finished it about 8:30 AM and went out to reheat a cup of coffee (sorry, Carl and Jeremy).

I was filling in the Blog when a friend called. He was complaining that I'd hung up on him yesterday after saying "Oh, shit!" and was worried I'd had a heart attack or something. I explained I'd left the phone off the cradle all day and it ran out of juice in mid-conversation (this happens to my daughter, Melissa all the time). When it was finally charged back up, I figured calling would be stupid, so I didn't.

So, we chatted for a while (mostly me, ranting about our Governor, our President and the state of the economy here in Michigan).

Then I went back and completed the Blog entry just after 11:00 AM. I took out two frozen poached chicken breast from June, when I made some chicken stock, to thaw.

I warmed up more of the pasta for my lunch. I was watching TV when I remembered I wanted to divide the iris out in front, so I put on a light jacket and went outside.

Brrr... I checked the temperature and it was only 45 degrees F! But, I dug out the iris, put them in my wheel barrow and filled in the hole with wood chips. I took them out back and planted them into the rear garden (see photos). Then I went inside to try and get warm. I reheated the last cup of coffee and drank it gratefully.

When I was out back, I saw a nice big green tomato, so I switched my dinner plans from a chicken salad sandwich to fried green tomatoes with a lettuce salad on the side.

I sliced the tomato, dipped each slice in egg and then flour (now that I think about it, maybe it should have been cornmeal) and fried it. I salted it and put it on a paper towel to drain.

I made my lettuce salad and dressed it with vinegar and oil. I went in and watched my Sunday night shows until 11:00 PM, then went to bed.
