I got up for my half-day of work on Wednesday with the alarm. I did wake up in the night, but determinedly went back to sleep. I woke up on time, refreshed and went through the usual ablutions. Then I dressed and headed off to work.
I started the car up to go to work and the oil light came on. That has never happened yet in all the years I owned this car. So, I got out and checked the oil. There was none showing on the stick! I looked under the car, and there was no big pool of oil. WTF?
I checked what oil I had in the garage. Other than the 30 weight for the mowers, I only had 1 1/2 quarts of 5W-30. So, I put that into the engine. I checked it and it barely registered on the dipstick. So, I drove to Murray's (right across Plymouth Road and thank God they open at 7:00 AM) and bought two more quarts. The first quart got it to in "full" range mark, and I'll keep checking it and add the second when it needs it.
I went to work feeling a little uneasy. It's not time for an oil change yet and I don't know where the oil went! When I went home at 11:00 AM, the first thing I did was to check and see if the inside of the tail pipe was oily. Maybe I blew a cylinder ring or something. Nope, just the usual black carbon.
Weird... And, worrisome...
I ate a little lunch and lay down to rest my right leg. This is really starting to tick me off. My therapist swears it's the way I sleep, so I tried her pillow between my legs theory. Then I tried a fatter pillow. But nothing seems to help. Sometimes its nothing and I feel fine. Other times it hurts so badly I can hardly walk. I figured whatever it is; I pissed it off with all the ladder work yesterday, so I am giving it the day off. If that doesn't work, I will seek professional help.
I alternated between the bed and doing some minor cleanup in the house. Finally, about 7:00 PM, I decided to make some dinner. It was nothing fancy (hot dogs) and I went back and forth about the cooking method.
With natural casing hot dogs, I always grill them (whether outside over charcoal or inside on the grille pan). But, the ones I thawed out were just plain old Ball Park beef franks, so I finally decided just to boil them (ah, childhood days...)
While they were heating up, I fine-diced a yellow onion. Then I got out ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet relish and dill relish. I figured I could mix it up a bit. I wish I had some sauerkraut (yellow mustard, onions and sauerkraut on a charcoal grilled, natural casing hot dog is my favorite).
I fixed one with ketchup, mustard onions and sweet relish and one with ketchup mustard and dill relish. Hmmm... I think plain old mustard and onions would have been preferable. Oh, and making them like my Mom used to? I guess I forgot just how mushy Mom's hot dogs were. Some childhood memories are better never revisited, lol!
