Happy New Year!!! (let's hope!)

I woke up New Year's Eve morning with a horrible stiff neck. I think it was from reading in bed in one position last night for so long (lying on my stomach, with the book on the bed in front of me). But standing in the shower with the hot water beating on it helped a lot.

I got dressed and went to therapy. It was snowing pretty hard on the way there and the roads were a mess. But, by the time I got out, it was above freezing (first time in a long time and only today, according to the Weather Channel). So, the snow was starting to melt on the roads and driving was much easier.

By the time I got home the ladies were up, so I filled in the Blog. They were leaving at 1:00 PM for the day (a visit with my son Jeremy at his work, then lunch and finally spending the night at an old friend of Lu's) so we just sat and read or visited until then.

After they left, I went to the bank for some cash and the roads were fine.

I checked the TV and found I'd missed a TMC movie day called "Holmes for the Holidays" so I started watching old Sherlock Holmes movies (you know, the ones with Basil Rathbone as Sherlock back in the '40s). It felt weird to be watching TV again.

I took a nice nap around 4:00 PM for a couple of hours and then made a can of Hormel chili for dinner. Then, back to the movies!

The last one I watched ended at 11:50 PM so I turned on live TV and watched the ball drop on Channel 4. Jake and Carla called to wish me a Happy New Year. I wasn't sleepy tired, so I watched a couple taped Iron Chef (Japan) shows and finally went to sleep at around 2:00 AM.

  1. I don't believe I've seen any of the Basil Rathbone Holmes movies. I've only seen the Jeremy Brett versions (usually shown on PBS [check your local listings]). How do they compare?

New Years Eve was indeed a nice day. Temperature is reading five now with a negative ten windchill (as always, windchill being used for bitching purposes only).

  2. I love them both! Of course, the Basil Rathbone movies were much longer, but the biggest difference is that in those, Doctor Watson (played by Nigel somebody or other) is more of a fumbling dofuss.
