The continental United States is bordered on the south by Mexico and the north by Canada. Other than natural barriers, there is no real border fence to permit crossing in from either north or south.
Now, for decades, we have heard of the Mexican's sneaking in, swimming the Rio Grande, paying "coyotes" to smuggle them in inside trucks, etc., being beaten, robbed, raped and eventually deported once caught.
But it occurred to me today I never, ever heard of a Canadian sneaking into the U.S. (unless it was an Arab terrorist passing through).
I attribute that to the fact that Canada has a national health-care system...
Yes, indeed. And better still, Provincial Health Care. As of last January, our Alberta Health Care is free of charge...
ReplyDeleteWhen we're sick, we definitely want to stay home!
Oh, sure, brag that up! BTW, it has not escaped my notice that your high and low temperatures are consistently warmer than both me and my daughter Amy (who lives in Minnesota)! What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteAl Gore's global warming only works in Alberta?
Well, as you recall, we did freeze our derrieres off in December and our landscape much resembled the ice age rather than global warming... We had to catch a break sometime!
ReplyDeleteNot to worry though, we'll pay for our uncharacteristically tropical January. When you're sprouting daffodils we'll still be shovelling sidewalks!
Well, no offense, but I hope so! Ever since my winter visit to your province, I have been telling everyone how freakin' cold it is there. So, this sudden warm spell is making me look bad!
ReplyDeleteWe can't have you looking bad so I'll clear your name! To all Captain K fans - it IS freakin' COLD in Alberta!! We're frozen into ice cubes at the start of winter which of course decreases work productivity so they let us thaw for a month or so before we are then plunged again into frozen oblivion. To be proactive, we all work really hard to keep our adrenaline pumping throughout the thaw to build up resistance to that ever looming ice cube state...
