Faucet Friday

I woke up with the alarm clock on Friday. I went to work and at lunch time, I went to Home Depot. I took along the copper faucet assembly I'd removed yesterday. I decided that, since I knew now there was an internal house shutoff, there was no sense in spending the money for such an elaborate gizmo. I'll just open up the access panel every fall and turn it off.

So, I guessed at the length I would need and had a galvanized pipe cut to that dimension. Then I had them thread both ends. I also bought a new faucet. I took a picture of old and new for you.

When I got home after work, I put pipe tape on both ends. Then I screwed on the faucet. I took a magic marker to show where (exactly) the outside faucet would be straight. I didn't want to go outside and crank on this to get it right and risk breaking the solder on the inside copper joint.

I used the pipe wrenches again to hold the copper joint and screw in the pipe. I went back outside and turned the faucet on. Then I turned on the inside shutoff valve. I went back outside and turned off the faucet. Then I got my flashlight and checked for drips. I wrapped the joint with a paper towel and waiting for any leaks. A half hour later, the paper was still dry!

The damn faucet was still about 1/2 inch off the wall, but the original was sticking out as well. So, I figured I'd figure something out...

I thought about screwing the access panel back on and then decided to wait until tomorrow (just in case).

It was almost 8:00 PM by then, so I started my dinner. I deboned the last two chicken thighs and put the meat in a saucepan. Then I added more of the Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce and warmed it up. When it was hot, I put it on two onion rolls, added two dill pickles and went in to watch the first "Rocky" movie. When it finished, I went to bed.
