I woke up Monday morning about two minutes before the alarm went off. I was very proud of myself for not waking up my house guest. Then I thought... uh, oh...
You see my normal weekday morning routine is to wake up at 5:30 AM, post the Blog and then at 6:00, turn on the Weather Channel. After the local forecast, I switch to the local news until about 6:30 AM. Then I shave, shower, etc. and go to work.
But, I have somebody sleeping in the office (so no Blog posting) and can't turn on the TV (WAY too loud - Jake rigged up amplified speakers so I can still hear it these days). So, I read (instead of slept) for the next hour or so.
I should have set the alarm for 6:30!
I was feeling a little out of it (okay, a LOT out of it). Two examples: I was on San Jose, pulling up to Plymouth road and looking to my left for cars when I heard somebody yelling, "Hey, hey, HEY!" I stopped about 6 inches away from a lady on a bicycle who was coming from the right. I gave her a sheepish grin, she glared at me.
Then I stopped at the gas station and told the guy I wanted to buy some Copenhagen. It's one of those with the bullet proof glass, so I slid $10.00 into the tray, turned around and walked out to the car. Another customer chased me down and said, "You forgot your stuff and your change!" Feeling like an idiot, I went back inside and straightened that up. This doesn't bode well...
The IT Director stopped by to see how I was feeling and told me I looked like hell. At the staff meeting, my boss told me I looked white as a sheet.
At lunch, I was hoping for a quick trip to the hardware store to get extra keys made for Lake Orion. Wrongo! Took them forever to find two of the key blanks and the third one they said was an antique. They suggested I try Livonia Lock and Key, but they would charge me more.
So, I drove another four miles or so and asked if they had blanks for the key. He looked at it and said, "Wow! An antique Taylor key!!" I told him it was from a 100 year old cottage. Fortunately, they had chairs, so I slumped into one while he got them cut. He did charge me more, but what are you gonna do?
I had to drive by Westborn to get home, so I stopped and picked up a Honey Dew melon, a cantaloupe and seedless green grapes for me to eat. I slumped onto the love seat, too tired to eat. So, Lu made me a sandwich.
I went back to work and somehow made it through the rest of the day. I got home just after 5:00 PM and Lu was vacuuming. She said, let me just finish trying to get the cat hair off the couches and then you should take a nap.
I changed clothes and lay on the bed with the cats (they fear the vacuum). I thought I'd wait until she turned it off, but fell asleep in about one minute. I slept until 7:30 PM!
Feeling a little better, I sat and talked with Lu until about 8:00 PM. Then she made herself another salad while I cut half of each melon into chunks. I put those in the fridge to cool.
I had a little bowl of them (delicious) and then, before 10:00 PM, went back to bed. I read until I fell asleep. Long day...
