Bangin' the Drum on the Three Day Weekend!

I woke up to the alarm's insistent calling on Friday morning. It had been another long, sleep-interrupted night and I just wasn't feeling the love, if you know what I mean.

I found my project (that I had abandoned to go to the doctor's) went well. There were a few hiccups (two printers instead of the one they told us about, etc.) but our guys worked through it all.

At lunch, I went to Kroger's and shopped for the next two weeks. I didn't get much (I can't afford much) but managed to spend $63.00 US. The only thing I couldn't get was a large bag of Purina Cat Chow. I brought it all home, lugged it inside, treated the cats, ate a quick sandwich and then headed back to work.

After work, I treated the cats (again), put away the groceries, cleaned up the dishes in the sink, loaded the dishwasher and started that up. Then I took the shower mat from the main bath, a couple of bath towels and a couple of kitchen towels and started a load of laundry.

I hit the freezer for the weekend's dinners. I took out a half pound of apple-wood smoked bacon and two one-pound round steaks and put them in the refrigerator to thaw. I got plans!

About 6:30 PM, I went out to cut the grass. This is supposed to be the last day of moderate (80 degrees F.) temperature and low humidity days. It gets into the 90's with high humidity over the Fourth of July weekend. So, I better get it done now.

I got the front grass cut with the push mower and went inside to take a bathroom break. As I was going back outside, the phone rang. It was my friend B___. Since I haven't talked to him in a while, it took some time for us to catch up (the car, the doctor visit, etc., on my part and he with his). By the time we finished talking, the sun was setting. So, I figured I'd cut the back yard in the morning.

I shut everything up and went inside to make my supper. I wasn't that inspired, so I just made a can of Campbell's tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I ate that while watching TV until I fell asleep.

I woke up in the night with a horrible sense of dread! I grabbed the shotgun (SOP) and walked through the house.

I figured out the cause of my unease. The light over my sink (which has been on since I moved here - so I didn't fall during the night) had gone out. The funny thing is that I don't remember how that fixture comes apart to replace the bulb.

So, I put the shotgun away and went back to sleep (albeit an uneasy sleep) for the rest of the night.

  1. One of these times, I swear, I am going to say something when I call that is interesting and memorable. I am going to say something striking enough to make it on the blog. One of these times.

It was good talking with you about your *ahem* ideas on expanding your horizons. Have fun with your cats and your cooking. I'll give you a call later next week.

  2. Okay, so I forgot to also say that Jeremy had also called and we talked for a while. But, apparently, our conversation was neither interesting nor memorable...
