Finally Friday

It had quit raining when I went to work Friday morning. I went to Home Depot at lunch and got four items I needed (I forgot the fifth one I'd planned). So, I picked up some rose fertilizer, some garden insect dust, some slug pellets (recommended over the "traditional" beer in a pie plate by my brother Carl) and a compact fluorescent bulb for over the kitchen sink. What I forgot was some of those evergreen spikes, but I'll get them another day (I want to be sure that arbor vitae I planted out front has a good chance of making it!)

I had the Channel Four news on while I ate a sandwich for lunch and saw that a rain shower was on its way to Livonia. So, I finished up and headed to work. I got there just as it started to sprinkle. I hope this doesn't mess up my plan to cut the front lawn tonight!

The afternoon was long (they always seem to be on Mondays and Fridays). But, when I got home at 5:15 PM, I walked around the front yard. There was no apparent moisture on my work shoes, so I gassed up the push mower and got started. I finished up the main front lawn by 6:00 and took a break (I hadn't changed clothes, so I was a little overheated - it's less humid, but still 81 degrees F., here). A couple of glasses of water and a ten minute rest and I was good to go.

I cut the side lawn (by the garage, the tree box and the mail box) and then broke out the slug pellets. I got all the hostas out front treated (two or three were pretty bad) and then washed my hands. I'll do the more numerous ones out back tomorrow. I did go out back and rip out all the remaining leaf lettuce and the peas (I'll replant them mid-August). I harvested about a double handful of the peas and took them inside to wash for a snack tonight. I shut everything up and started a load of clothes.

I ate a Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie for dinner and watched TV until 11:00 PM. Then I went to bed.
