Christmas

I woke up early on Christmas and made two of those breakfast sandwiches. But, around 10:00 AM, I went back to bed and took a nap. I woke up around noon and got ready to go to Jake and Carla’s.

Our original non-traditional Christmas plan was to do a Jeff Bridges movie duo and eat out. So we would watch Tron, go to a restaurant and then go see True Grit. But Jake couldn’t find any movie theaters or restaurants open on Christmas Day. So we are watching movies at their house.

I brought over snacks: some of my Mom’s liver pate (I made it on my birthday), some big olives stuffed with blue cheese and spinach dip with little pita rounds.

For dinner they made Irish Sausage (aka bangers) and Colcannon (which is Irish mashed potatoes with cabbage in them). It sounded a little strange, but both the sausages and the Colcannon were delicious!

The movies we watched were “Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia” and “Stardust.” I started nodding off on the couch, so I left for home (with some sausages and Colcannon).

All in all, it was a great Christmas.

  1. Shoot! I forgot we also had tea (Earl Grey Creme de la Creme with German creamed raps flower) and red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.

  2. Speaking of your children...they move almost as much as mine...received Jake and Carla's card back "not deliverable" so...I can forward or wait until next year!

1.) what the heck is a Colcannon ?
2.) cabbage in the potatoes...how do you make them?
    (sounds intersting)

  4. Colcannon - basically, you make mashed potatoes a little wetter than normal. Meanwhile you saute cabbage (savoy is a good bet) and then mix them together. Good balance of textures and adds some flavour to the potatoes.
