Friday

It was 3 degrees F. when I woke up, with that same damn wind. The high today is supposed to be only 23 degrees. But, by Sunday the highs are supposed to be above freezing and the lows only in the 20’s and it will stay that way for the next several days. Is spring on the way? Jesus, I hope so...

I had the last of the salami with the last of the Swiss cheese in a sandwich for lunch. I had spread the bread with my new hot mustard. Was the Dearborn Hot mustard the same as the old Red Pelican? Well, since it’s been over 30 years since I tasted Red Pelican, I can’t speak to any nuances in taste, but it’s either spot on or damn close!

I had my last apple for dessert.

And why, you might ask, (well, you might if you were paying attention) did I only get two salami sandwiches out of a whole pack of salami? Because I've been bad. There is nothing (NOTHING!) that tastes better to me than a slice of salami, topped with cream cheese and then rolled up and eaten. So, I've been snacking on this since I bought it.

When I got home after work, I treated the cats, washed the skillet and the pasta pot and sieve and then sat on the couch to rest a bit (work was crazy today – in fact, I got the last update call on my work cell phone from a tech at 5:40 PM, letting me know something I needed done today was finished).

At 6:30, I watched the NBC Nightly News. The events in Egypt (brought about by mainly non-violent protests) reminded me of Martin Luther King and/or Gandhi in India.

The cats joined me on the bed. They claim they like Tom Brokow, but they mostly snooze. So, I thought it might be a good time to brush them and then hit them with the “Hypoallergenic & Shed Control Cat Wipes” (Whisker City from PetSmart). Scruffy put up with it (although protesting wildly), but Caley turned around and bit me. I didn’t realize how deep it was until I noticed I was bleeding on the bedspread.

Dammit! So, I cleaned the puncture wound out with rubbing alcohol (I don't need no cat scratch fever) and applied pressure on it until it stopped bleeding. The bedspread I will wash this weekend, anyway.

I have so many leftovers, I decided to forego my planned Sunday supper (the pork loin and the Brussels sprouts). But, what to do about the Brussels sprouts? They are already starting to look a little sad.

So, I cut off the stems, stripped off the outer leaves, cut them in half and dropped them into boiling, salted water. When they were fork tender, I drained them, topped them with butter and some sea salt and ate them all for dinner. Excellent!

I went to bed early (about 9:30). I told you this was a rough day...
