Saturday’s Story

I woke up at the usual time (5:30 AM), tried to fall back asleep (hey it’s the weekend, right?) and then gave up and posted the Blog entry. Then I went in to watch the news.

I occasionally ask myself why I watch the news. It either depresses me or pisses me of. But, I still do...

I dillied and dallied for a while (I don’t like to dilly-dally as it creates gender issues I am uncomfortable with) and then I made brunch.

I had about six cups of mashed potatoes, so I made my ex-wife Fran’s recipe. I was struck with this thought though: We had seven kids in our family and never had leftover potatoes. She had 12 kids in her family and they had leftovers? I know it was her job to peel them (she was the second oldest) but did they make like 50 pounds at a time?

Any way, with that many potatoes, I added two eggs and some flour. I can’t tell you how much flour. You just add enough to make it stiff. If only that would work in other places... oh, wait a minute, I don’t need it any more…

Anyway, I heated up some canola oil and butter and then fried them. I ate three of them, seasoned with sea salt.

I ate them watching some taped cooking shows and then cleaned up the mess.

In the afternoon, I took a nap. The phone ringing woke me up. It was my daughter Melissa who wanted to say “Hi!” She did and then almost immediately hung up. Weird, coming from her...

I ate leftovers for dinner and watched a movie until bedtime.
