Devils advocate. Can anyone seriously claim that $0.33 is a hardship?
Anyways, note it is labeled as tax. Because McDonald's is prepared food, it is subject to sales tax. A quick calc shows that $0.33 is 6% of the total $5.39. You'd get the same amount with a different label (something like "eat in") if you walked thru the doors.
Protip: Shop the dollar menu. If you get a McDouble or McChicken w/ a small fry it can be up to 70 calories less for $3.00. (Don't believe the menu about the drink. Any size drink is $1.00.)
