It just started sprinkling when I got to work on Wednesday. But then all hell broke loose, with thunder, lightning and rain coming down like you wouldn’t believe (well, if you are reading this and live in Southeast Michigan, you probably would believe it).
When I went home for lunch, you couldn’t drive in the right-hand lanes as all the storm drains were full and there was a good six inches of water there. I couldn’t believe the back yard when I looked out the bathroom window, so I took a picture of the new lake that totally submersed the grass I had just cut last night.
The storms had eased up a bit on the way back to work, but it started up again in the afternoon. By the time I got home from work (again driving through pouring rain) the back yard lake had almost doubled, so I took another picture. I also took pictures of my overflowing front ditches (I blame that on my neighbor and the stupid ornamental grass he planted in his part of the ditch – now my water has no where to go!)
I am getting a little nervous as the water creeps towards the house. I’m not that worried about the main house (its up on a two or three-foot crawl space) but the downstairs is sitting on a slab. And, I remember the water damage Jake and Carla had in their basement a couple of years ago. I don’t need that right now!
I fried up the last of my potatoes, the last Vidalia onion and a pound of smoked sausage for my dinner. I ate about 1/3 of that watching TV. When the rest cooled, I put it in the fridge for leftovers.
I was beat and my back still hurt, so I went to bed at 10:00 PM. But I was awakened at 2:45 AM by loud thunder, more lightning and rain, pelting the windows. Groan...
Doesn't look like there's much drainage going on anywhere on that street.
ReplyDeleteWe finally welcomed the first good rain last night! This drought has taken it toll on everything.
Right about now, I'd welcome a damn drought! It rained again all day here.
